No matter what you’re looking to buy, chances are, Ocean City has exactly what you’re looking for.
That’s because local businesses thrive on the island and bring with them a sense of spirit and individuality. Asbury Avenue between Sixth and 14th Streets is a bustling downtown district full of shops and eateries, with many tucked along the side streets as well. There are music shops, antiques, a quaint five and dime shop, a surf shop, eclectic clothing shops, as well as book stores and a nostalgic sweet shop on par with the one you remember from your childhood.
Asbury Avenue has several places to grab a bite, whether it be quick, slow, gourmet, or just plain good. Sandwiches, pizza, diner classics, fancy lunches, coffee houses, and ice cream joints line the streets offering all sorts of cuisines. Wednesday nights in the summer come alive on Asbury Avenue for the Evenings on Asbury celebration. Shops are open late and there is special entertainment for the family.
On the boardwalk, it’s only a matter of time before the amazing smells wafting around entice you enough to stop for a bite to eat. You can grab food to go (think pizza, burgers, and fries) or sit down for a relaxing meal (pasta, salad, seafood, etc.) at one of the many eatery options. Don’t fill up too much, there are sweets galore and the boardwalk experience won’t be the same without a custard, water ice, or caramel popcorn to finish.
Ocean City also has a third main district that offers dining and shopping — the Southend area, boasting wonderful shops and restaurants sprinkled throughout. There’s even a seashell museum featuring unique and interesting shells from all over the world, a grocery store, a pharmacy and a surf shop among many other small businesses.
