Ocean City Arts and Entertainment

The two and a half mile long boardwalk is famous for its truly tantalizing locale—jutting right up against the green grasses on the sandy dunes overlooking the mighty Atlantic. On any given day or night, crowds of families, kids, and couples are walking around seeing and experiencing the sights, whether it be a show on the Ocean City Music Pier or a ride on a roller coaster.

Even the boardwalk itself is an experience. The sounds, sights, and smells are one of a kind and are downright lovable. Shops offer everything from fabulous shore-inspired original art to tee shirts to fudge and salt water taffy. You can pick up funky jewelry, get a henna tattoo, or have your palm read while your friend picks up the latest best-selling novel—the possibilities for fun are seemingly endless. Everything is family friendly, so bring the kids—they will feel right at home playing miniature golf (there are several courses), shooting basketballs, playing Skee-ball at the arcades, or flying down a slide into a pool at the waterpark.

Entertainment is everywhere in Ocean City, from giant teddy bears standing outside ice cream parlors to life-sized salt water taffy waving hello. The Ocean City Music Pier is a happening place all summer long. There are first-rate acts like Arlo Guthrie, and the Bacon Brothers.

In addition to concerts, the Music Pier hosts several craft shows, art shows, and even a flower show in spring. It’s also home to Welcome Night, a celebration for newcomers to the island, who can meet and greet with the local business people. Along the boardwalk in the open air, there are art shows where you can meet and chat with the artists and view their work displayed under white tents all along the boards. There are also car shows and antique shows throughout the year.

For budding artists and cultural enthusiasts, Ocean City Arts Center is the place to go. The two-story structure also houses the modern (and truly wonderful for book lovers) library, aquatic and fitness center, and historical museum (here you can get up close to a scale model of the Sindia). The Arts Center offers programs and classes for every age and is a great place to hone your artistic talent with support and encouragement. On any given day there are people spinning clay, painting watercolors, and carving sculptures in the Center’s many classrooms.
