There’s no mistaking it —Ocean City will always be a popular destination for those seeking a respite from the hectic pace of the bigger cities.

Though summer is the most popular season for tourists, the other seasons provide a serene, natural beauty that is outstanding. In the fall, the leaves are brilliant colors and the temps are perfect for long, leisurely beach walks. The winter provides a bit of falling snow (because of the salty air, the flakes don’t stick around too long, so travel is hardly ever impaired), and the spring brings a fresh breeze that is as delicate and soft as the emerging flowers.

Since Ocean City is an all-year round destination with a strong summer season, it’s no wonder that small businesses thrive here. As long as the ocean crashes into the sand, people will come and locals will stay.

There are only a few franchises in Ocean City—mostly fast food restaurants and other nationally known chains. Their presence makes up only a fraction of the business community though, and small businesses are encouraged to stay and succeed on the island.

In the summer, it’s where everyone wants to be, and in the shoulder seasons, it’s where everyone comes to escape the concrete of the big cities and be among nature.
