Union Township, NJ Chamber of Commerce

Welcome

Union Township, NJ Chamber of Commerce

The Township of Union continues to thrive as one of the most vibrant communities in the state of New Jersey. Residential property values continue to remain near the top of all municipalities in the county, while our residential services are second to none in the state.

Over the past several years, we have increased the number of police and firefighters in our municipality, bringing the level of officers in those departments to record levels. The results are encouraging. Crime is down, emergency medical response times have improved, and our uniformed personnel remain the best trained, best equipped in the county, if not the state.

At the same time, economic development remains a major priority in the stability of our municipality. Major national businesses have opened or are preparing to open in Union, including Lowe’s, Cintas, Federal Express, Office Depot, Allstate New Jersey, and Ray Catena Mercedes, among many others. The soon to be built ‘super’ Stop ‘n Shop will be an anchor store in Union Center.

It should also be noted that the Chamber has increased its membership roles with many smaller, but equally important businesses. Restaurants, clothing merchants, medical services and investment firms are just a few of the local businesses that have found a home in Union and in the Union Chamber of Commerce this past year.

One of the catalysts to the excellent business prospects of the township is Union Station, located on Green Lane on the Raritan Valley Rail Line. Ancillary development around the station, including new town homes and a hotel, has done much to improve the economic climate in the eastern border of Union.

The redevelopment and expansion of Union Center is a major priority of the administration and the Township Committee. We are currently in the process of planning the revitalization of our downtown business center with a mix of residential and commercial development. Residents and Union Center merchants and landlords will be asked for input in any and all planning decisions. We will begin planning today for a new, improved Union Center of tomorrow.

There is a fine line between economic development and residential quality of life issues, and we are very cognizant of that line in Union. While we realize the role business plays in helping to stabilize property taxes, we also realize that our first priority is maintaining a safe, stable and attractive community where people can live and raise their families. Over the past several years, we have become a business friendly administration, but never at the expense of our residents. I look forward to working with the Union Township Chamber of Commerce to achieve goals that serve both local business and residents.
