Employing a Community

Although primarily a residential community, Union has a zoning profile of approximately 14 percent industrial and 13 percent commercial, making it an attractive location for business investment purposes. Manufacturing employs over 18 percent of Union residents; educational, health and social services employ over 13 percent; and retail employs over 11 percent. Numerous major companies are headquartered in Union, and more than 300 businesses employ over 30,000 workers. Union County was ranked by the 2002 World Almanac as among the top 15 highest per person per capita income areas in the country.

One of Union’s largest employers is Kean University, which has its main campus located in the Township.
