Union is governed by a Township Committee, which sets policy on all Township business and passes ordinances and resolutions, including the annual budget. The committee consists of five members who hold staggered three-year terms, and are elected by popular vote in general election.
Union’s municipal services are the most modern and professional in Union County. Police services are handled around the clock by over 170 officers and 65 civilian employees.
In addition to 107 full-time firefighters, the fire department employs six civilians and seven volunteer firefighters (paid on-call).
