For the wine enthusiast, there is the opportunity to taste locally made wines at Bellview Winery in Landisville. The winery is located on the same farm that the owner’s great-grandfather purchased in 1914 after emigrating from Italy. Originally just the 20-acre plot on which the winery now sits, the farm has expanded to over 130 acres, 30 of which are planted in vineyards. The renovated barn that is today’s winery houses the original wine cellar. Each year the winery is host to a number of events, which include a Jazz Festival, Seafood Festival, and Harvest Festival.

Want to see what it was like living in the rural areas and on farms around the early twentieth century? Dutch Neck Village opened in 1976 and contains two museums, a country restaurant, gift shops and an arboretum. The original building opened as a plant shop and became the first of many shops. That building and one other were built from material taken from the old Olivet Methodist Church, built in 1851 at Palatine, NJ.

For the sports enthusiast, you’ll never be at a loss for things to do. The Vineland Ice Arena offers league and open hockey, public and figure skating and lessons. New Jersey’s first off-track betting parlor is located on Delsea Drive in Vineland and offers a high-end restaurant to host betting on the ponies. Loyle Lanes is a family owned bowling center and offers men’s, women’s, mixed and junior leagues. The facility is also host to many corporate outings, organization fundraisers and birthday parties.

The city’s Recreation Commission oversees 17 city parks, many offering baseball fields and basketball and tennis courts in addition to playground equipment and picnic areas. A soccer complex, which includes two lighted fields, provides ample room for Vineland’s children to participate in this increasingly popular sport. In addition, the Recreation Commission sponsors organized leagues for both children and adults, including Little League, Babe Ruth League, softball, volleyball and horseshoes.

North Vineland Little League is a non-profit organization established over 50 years ago to provide a supervised program of competitive baseball and softball games for children ages five through sixteen. The City of Vineland in conjunction with the Vineland Rotary Club constructed a new state of the art handicap accessible clubhouse facility and established a “Challenger Division” for physically and mentally challenged youth.

Golfers will find a course in the Vineland area that suits their needs and abilities, ranging from chip-and-putt courses and driving ranges to championship 18-hole courses. Set on 17 acres in Vineland, Lincoln Falls Golf Learning and Family Fun Center features 65 tees that look out over a well-manicured 305-yard-deep landing area, as well as an 18-hole, waterfall-filled miniature golf course and arcade in the clubhouse.

The newest private club is the Running Deer Golf Club, a unique 18 hole golf course that accommodates all skill levels. Six sets of tees ranging from a tame 5,510 yards to an unyielding championship test of 7,074 yards plus a huge well-manicured practice area and a large, comfortable clubhouse.

Buena Vista Country Club has emerged as a strong South Jersey favorite and was voted “Best of the Best” by readers of Powers Golf Guide. This beautiful “Carolina style” course is flat, heavily wooded and well bunkered. Water also comes into play on several holes especially on the newly renovated par 3, 17th. The course is quite challenging and modestly priced for the experience.

The White Oaks Country Club in Newfield affords public golfers a large helping of enjoyable golf with a par 71-6,500 yard, 18-hole Championship Golf Course. To relax before or after your round, the 10,000-plus square-foot clubhouse includes a full-service bar and grille room.

Opening in 2008, New Jersey Motorsports Park’s main attraction will be a 3.98 mile — seventeen turn Thunderbolt Raceway road circuit. In addition to Road Racing activities, New Jersey Motorsports Park will have a world class Karting Circuit, an off-road recreational vehicle course, spacious skid pads and a three quarter of a mile Tri-Oval raceway. The New Jersey Motorsports Park will also be home to car shows, classic car auctions, driving schools, concerts and other special events. It will be complimented by hotels, restaurants, specialty retail shops, a conference center and an office research and development campus.

Nearby Parvin’s State Park in Centerton offers 14 miles of trails for hiking and biking and a lake and beach for swimming in the summer and skating in the winter. Other activities include nature walks, canoeing, camping and boating. For those interested in observing nature at a more intense level, the Manumuskin River Preserve is a great place to explore and perhaps even glimpse one of the endangered bird species soaring above. In addition, the Maurice River corridor is an unusually pristine Atlantic Coastal river with national and internationally important resources. As part of the Atlantic flyway, its clean waters and related habitats are vitally important to the migration of shorebirds, songbirds, waterfowl, raptors, rails, and fish. Historically, the Maurice River is home to a rich fishing, boating, and oystering heritage.

If you’re looking for a way to relax and unwind, stay fit or just play and have fun, you don’t have to travel far from your doorstep to discover the area’s wealth of sporting and leisure-time activities for both spectators and participants.
