Vineland Education

learning

Vineland is a stable community whose future is bright, and its economy is on the upswing, making it a wonderful place to raise children of any age. Students and parents enjoy the rural environment and diverse, culturally-rich population.

The targeted development and ongoing growth of work-ready high school and college graduates is the key to future prosperity. Educational opportunities range from preschool through college and continuing education. Parents, teachers, and leaders in the community have placed a high priority on quality education for its young people. An active Business/Education partnership exists to prepare students for careers and guarantee a skilled work force to meet the needs of business and industry in the area.

The Vineland Public School District is comprised of eight elementary (grades K-5), four intermediate (grades 6 through 8) and two high schools (one, Vineland High North, for grades 9 and 10 and the other, Vineland High South, for grades 11 and 12). In addition, thereis a pre-school program, IMPACT, four alternative schools and a full Adult Education program and facility. The district takes care to pay attention to the needs of every student. The “LEAP” (learners with exceptional abilities) program identifies the especially gifted student and provides appropriate placement from kindergarten through Grade 5. Sixth, seventh and eighth graders are offered advanced English and math, and high school students are entitled to select Advanced Placement and Honors courses in English, History, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Calculus, Math and World Language. The math program also offers advanced courses in computer programming. In addition, English as a Second Language courses and a full special education component round out the district’s list of programs.

To meet the demands of our diversified community, there are also a number of private and parochial schools, which offer a choice to parents for a different approach to education. Quality education is a priority with our youngest learners as is evidenced at area preschools, where knowledgeable, caring staff and faculties and involved parents work together to provide an academic environment conducive to learning.

Cumberland County College was the first community college in New Jersey to open its own campus on Oct. 17, 1966. Located on 100-acres, the college provides an outstanding educational and social atmosphere and is dedicated to preparing students and community members for success in the ever-changing global environment. CCC offers 90 career and transfer programs of study. Graduates have successfully transferred to every college in New Jersey and scores of colleges and universities throughout America. Through CCC’s University Partnerships, graduates can earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees on campus. The college also offers community education courses and customized employee education for area businesses.  High school students may earn full CCC scholarships through the School Counts! and NJ STARS programs. Enrolling more than 3,400 students, the college is fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. More than 14,000 students have graduated from CCC since it opened 40-years ago. The college’s second largest class – 412 students – graduated in May 2006. More than half of CCC’s graduates continue their education at four-year colleges and universities. The other graduates become a vital part of the work force.

Learning is a top priority for the entire region, as students, workers, and citizens prepare for today’s competitive environment. Through vision and commitment, the schools in our community provide an excellent education to all students and work diligently to assure that they are the bridge to our future.
