Two
Growing Hospitals That are Dedicated to the Area and Its Residents…
A growing population requires greater medical services, and both of Warren
County’s hospitals have undergone large expansions in recent years
in an attempt to provide more and better care to the region’s populace.
Hackettstown Community Hospital, which provides service to the northern
section of the county, and adjacent communities, is an Adventist Healthcare
facility, emphasizing care of the whole patient, including patient education
and counseling. Open since 1973, HCH offers acute care inpatient services,
24-hour emergency services, and diagnostic, surgical and outpatient services,
including counseling and addiction services.
Growing with the surrounding community, Hackettstown Community Hospital
has nearly completed its $27.5 million, 60,000 square foot addition to
its West Wing, a project that will provide a new outpatient entrance and
additional parking, two additional floors on the one existing West Wing
floor, and expansion of the existing second, third and fourth floors of
the main hospital building. A second floor on the West Wing allows additional
space for surgery, with one additional operating room, and four new minor
procedure rooms. The second floor will also provide new outpatient spaces
for cardiopulmonary and ambulatory surgery prep and recovery, as well
as a new outpatient entrance with lobby and registration area. The radiology/imaging
department space will be doubled and an additional radiographic room will
be added, as well as a new state-of-the-art CT scanner.
The third floor will house a new, state-of-the-art eight-bed Intensive
Care Unit/Critical Care Unit, and a new 21-bed Step-down/Telemetry Unit.
The area vacated by the former ICU/CCU and Step-down Unit will allow for
the expansion of the existing Medical/Surgical area, placing all Med/Surg
beds on the same floor. The progressive Childbirth Family Center will
then be expanded to occupy the entire fourth floor, with twenty private
rooms. The existing West Wing first floor will be used for central supply
and a stock room, with a new receiving entrance and expanded Materials
Management area.
All of these renovations come on the heels of a multi-phase, $17 million
renovation focusing on the interior and exterior of the existing facility,
completed in 2002. Plans are currently underway to add a Cancer Center
to Hackettstown Community Hospital’s offerings to the region.
The southern portion of the county is served by Warren Hospital, a not-for-profit
institution that’s also a teaching hospital for its Family Practice
Residency program. Warren Hospital emphasizes whole-patient care, and
includes among its services exceptional diagnostic technologies, accredited
by the College of American Pathologists, State of the Heart care, cancer
services, out- and in-patient psychiatric services, and counseling and
addiction services.
Warren Hospital is currently completing its own $6.2 million multi-phase
renovation, with work concentrated on the South Wing, where the Vascular
Laboratory and Wound Healing Center have been expanded, and are now located
on the ground floor. The new Welcome Center, with a covered drop-off area
for patients and visitors contains a spacious lobby, with redesigned coffee
and gift shops scheduled to reopen soon. Patient registration and financial
services are now located just inside the main entrance.
Other projects include the new Center for Sleep Medicine adjacent to the
main campus, construction of two permanent MRI units, including an open
MRI, and a new $1.7 million facility-wide heating and cooling system.
Also slated for opening soon are a new off-campus
outpatient facility for physical, occupational and speech/hearing therapy,
as well as a cardiac rehabilitation.
The renovation will
also include first-floor patient areas, including the Intensive Care Unit,
One North and Telemetry, and new equipment and furnishings for all patient
rooms.
