Government

Woodbridge is proud to have a forward-thinking body of government overseeing its ever-thriving community. The Township is governed by a mayor-council structure led by an elected full-time mayor and a nine-member council who work together to rectify local issues and initiate policies in order to meet the always evolving needs of the greater Woodbridge community. The mayor is the executive branch of the government. The municipal council is the legislative body, which represents the public. It receives input; develops and adopts policy; resolves public issues; formulates Township policy through motions, resolutions and ordinances, which reflect the needs of the public; and maintains a working knowledge of intergovernmental issues and how they will affect the Township.

As part of the 19th Legislative District, the Township is served by a senator and two assemblymen whose offices are located in Woodbridge.

The Woodbridge Police Department provides the best in public safety services. In addition to fighting crime in the area, the department affords a number of service-focused and community-based programs, Graffiti Busters and an established Domestic Violence Response Team. Fire protection is accessed through the Woodbridge Fire Department along with fire departments in Avenel, Colonia, Fords and Iselin. First Aid Squads operate in Avenel-Colonia, Port Reading and Woodbridge.

Additionally, two informative cable television channels can be accessed in Woodbridge, which residents utilize to gain details on local activities and events. Overseen by the municipal government, TV-35 broadcasts meetings, news conferences, special ceremonies, an array of community events and educational programming and information for the Township School District. TV-36 broadcasts the calendar of events and weather and traffic for the area.
