Alamogordo is conveniently located at the intersection of two four-lane highways, U.S. 70 and U.S. 54. These two highways provide excellent connections to two major north-south and east-west interstate highways, I-10, I-25 and I-40. Because dry weather is the rule, 300-plus days a year, truckers and tourists alike find the southern part of New Mexico a pleasant route year-round.
Local transportation is provided by Alamogordo's award-winning Z-Trans Public Transportation Service — which provides service to Holloman Air Force Base, Alamogordo, La Luz, Alamorosa, Tularosa and Mescalero. This mass transit service is available Monday-Friday for $1 per ride.
White Sands Regional Airport serves the Tularosa Basin with amenities such as a cafˇ, car rentals and Fixed Base Operator services where private pilots are provided gas, maintenance and supplies through Ed's Flying Service. The city of Alamogordo is awaiting final approval of commuter air service by New Mexico Airlines. El Paso International Airport (El Paso, Texas) is the closest major international airport, approximately 85 miles (90 minute drive) south of Alamogordo. Carriers there include Southwest, American, America West, Delta and United Airlines.
Service is provided by Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma (TNM&O) Coaches, which interconnects with Greyhound lines.
Commercial and industrial freight service from Alamogordo is available through Union Pacific Railroad. Alamogordo has two rail spurs.
