Arts & Entertainment
The Flickinger Center is a 670-seat auditorium for the performing arts. It is the host to the Miss Teen New Mexico and Miss New Mexico Pageants held each June and the Miss Alamogordo and Otero County Pageant in July. During the Premier Series Season, the Flickinger presents approximately 10 shows. Shows include nationally known musical groups such as the Ink Spots and Jesse Cook and up-and-coming groups — such as the Swedish Folk group Garmana and the Gospel group Ollabelle. The season also includes dance troupes, musical plays (such as Gentlemen Prefer Blondes), and international performers like the Somei Yoshio Taiko Drum Group. The summer would not be complete without the arrival of the Tailgate Summer Jazz Series. Every second and fourth Saturday night in June, July and August, the night air is filled with great music from groups brought in by the Flickinger to perform in the upper parking lot of the New Mexico Museum of Space History.
