Education

Alamogordo public schools

Alamogordo public schools support a vision of excellence that students may reach their fullest potential as educated citizens. There are 11 elementary schools and five secondary schools in the area, as well as several private schools.

Alamogordo is also home to the New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Since 1903, the school has served the youth of New Mexico and their families with the mission of providing training, support and resources necessary to prepare blind/visually/multiply impaired children in New Mexico to participate fully in their families, community and work force and to lead independent, productive lives.

New Mexico State University

Higher education is available through several universities. New Mexico State University has a branch campus in Alamogordo and at Holloman Air Force Base, offering vocational and technical programs as well as associate degrees. Additional educational opportunities are available at Holloman Air Force Base through Park University, Troy State University, Embry-Riddle University, Central Texas College and the University of Phoenix. Many of these institutions offer bachelor's and master's degrees, and are open to civilians as well as military personnel.

The city of Alamogordo operates a public library, providing local citizens educational, informational and recreational resources — including computer access. Local residents may also check out materials from the David Townsend Library located at New Mexico State University at Alamogordo.
