Religion and community worship have always played an integral part of life in Alamogordo. Grace United Methodist Church, Alamogordo's oldest house of worship, opened its doors in 1898. Most denominations are now represented, the largest being Catholic, Evangelical Protestant and mainline Protestant congregations. Alamogordo is a close-knit community that shares its values beyond religious lines. Many of its faith-based organizations are inter-denominational.
Alamogordo has a thriving participatory community. The city is home to many national and international clubs and organizations such as Rotary International, Lions, Kiwanis, Elks, Eagles and Shriners. Veteran's organizations — such as the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, The Air Force Association and the Marine Corps League — are also present. There are sports clubs for motorcyclists, car enthusiasts and hang gliders. There are over 300 local clubs and organizations to meet almost anyone's needs.
