Alamogordo is conveniently located at the intersection of two four-lane highways, U.S. 70 and U.S. 54. These two highways provide excellent connections to two major north-south and east-west interstate highways, I-10, I-25, and I-40. Because dry weather is the rule, 300-plus days a year, truckers and tourists alike find the southern part of New Mexico a pleasant route year-round. Local bus transportation is provided by Alamogordo’s award-winning Z-Trans Public Transportation Service, which provides service to Holloman Air Force Base, Alamogordo, La Luz, Alamorosa, Tularosa and Mescalero. White Sands Regional Airport serves the Tularosa Basin, and El Paso International Airport (El Paso, Texas) is the closest major international airport, approximately 85 miles (90 minute drive) south of Alamogordo.
