Located in the base of the beautiful Sacramento Mountains, Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center (GCRMC) is a 99-bed, DNV accredited, acute-care medical facility. This facility gas served the citizens of Otero County and surrounding communities since August 1949. The current facility opened in December 1999. Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center is a shared facility with Holloman Air Force Base. GCRMC is the largest non-government employer in Alamogordo with 670 employees. The medical staff consists of 180 affiliated physicians and 80 active staff members practicing in the community.
GCRMC is among the top 10 percent of hospitals in the country that have achieved a complete electronic medical record. The technology at the medical Center is state-of-the for a rural community hospital. In 2011 the facility installed latest in CT technology the new dual source CT, offering more images than any other CT technology.
As the hospital expands its regional status three new service lines have been added. Inpatient and Outpatient Behavioral Health for seniors, Inpatient Rehabilitation services offering physical rehabilitation from surgery, stroke and other illnesses. Opening in September 2012 was the new wound care center including hyperbaric oxygen therapy. The addition of these three services will eliminate the need for our patients to travel outside of their community. The joint center provides excellence in joint surgery by evaluating and preparing patients four weeks before their surgery.
A commitment to care for our community started over sixty years ago and we continue this commitment. Physician Recruitment is an important aspect of meeting the needs of the community. Over the past two years we have been successful in meeting many of the service deficits in the community.
