Excellent and comprehensive healthcare facilities are available in Portales. Roosevelt General Hospital is the newest addition to Portales and the county. Cooper Medical Building from Oklahoma City completed construction in Spring 2001. This modern, attractive facility is fully equipped with the most technologically advanced equipment available throughout New Mexico and the western Texas area and is staffed by the best-trained personnel. The hospital’s active medical staff is composed of physicians from many specialties, including cardiology, dentistry, family and general practice, general surgery, internal medicine, neurosurgery, obstetrics/gynecology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, pediatrics, pathology, radiology and urology. Sophisticated radiographic studies, including full body CT scanning and vascular angiographies, are available. A full range of nuclear medicine and sonographic procedures are routine.
A new urgent care facility, Portales Medical Center, opened its doors and is helping to ensure that Roosevelt County’s health needs are met. The facility offers full medical services daily. These new facilities, along with La Casa Health Clinic, which is open to the general public, will encompass and meet the needs of everyone throughout the county. Large pools of medical doctors are continuously available through many other local medical centers and private practices.
Heartland Continuing Care Center and Bee Hive Quality Assisted Living Homes offer a warm and loving environment for continued elderly care. Golden Acres Retirement & Portales Estates are independent living apartments in a subsidized residential section for those seeking an area with privacy, activities and minimal noise.
