The Silver City and Grant County area has many small businesses. Friendly person-to-person contact is the hallmark of customer service here. Locally owned and owner-operated businesses invest in the community and take pride in the local way of doing business — preserving the community character.
Historic Downtown, including parts of four historic districts, is a pedestrian-friendly area that serves both residents and visitors. It is comprised of a number of entities — including retail and service businesses, government services, studios, nonprofit organizations, churches and schools. The buildings of the district, many dating from the 1880s and 1890s, were “built to last.”
The Silver City Museum, art galleries, unique shops, restaurants, coffeehouses and entertainment spots are part of the mix. Historic lodging is also available. Other businesses include furniture and home furnishings, accountants, real estate agents, car and motorcycle repair, grocery and herb stores, a toy store, a tile factory and much more.
Larger businesses, national franchises and fast-food restaurants are located on the highways that lead into Grant County. As the “Gateway to the Gila” and the regional trade center for Southwest New Mexico, the modern conveniences of larger cities are available with hometown service. More than 500 lodging rooms are offered throughout the area in an array of lodging facilities — including quaint cabins, bed and breakfast facilities, modern motel suites and rustic cabins.
The Silver City/Grant County area has become a popular getaway for regional regulars from El Paso, Texas; Tucson, Arizona; and across New Mexico. Therefore, many weekends require advanced lodging and dining reservations. It is recommended that visitors “book ahead.
