Canandaigua – The Chosen Spot
A quick trip around Canandaigua and a look at the lake, and you’ll understand why the native Americans called this “the chosen spot,” a term still used today to identify a community steeped in history, surrounded by natural beauty, and inhabited by people with a common commitment to balancing Canandaigua’s legacy with the opportunities of the future.
The City of Canandaigua is situated at the north end of Canandaigua Lake. The Town of Canandaigua surrounds the city and the north end of the lake like a horseshoe. They combine to make a diverse community, with tourism thriving alongside agriculture, and with a common goal of protecting our diversity, our history, and our quality of life. The City, Town and its neighbors, make up what we call “the Canandaigua area.”
The Canandaigua area, quite simply, is a remarkable place to live, work and play. We value the beauty of our surroundings; we value our children with excellent school systems; we value our work life with a diverse economy and evergrowing opportunities for good jobs; and we value our spare time, celebrating it with swimming, boating, skiing, shopping, fine dining, and historic sites. And we gladly share these with our friends and our welcome visitors.
For residents and visitors alike, time spent in Canandaigua is time well spent. Our residents speak proudly of the Canandaigua community, with a pride built upon hundreds of years of living, working, and playing that have given proof to what we all know: Canandaigua truly is The Chosen Spot.
