Location & Transportation

graphicCortland County is approximately 25 miles south of Syracuse, NY, 20 miles from Ithaca, and 30 miles from Binghamton on the northern part of the Appalachian Mountains at the southeastern section of the Finger Lakes Region. The county’s location and transportation infrastructure are its key assets, meeting the needs of warehouse and distribution companies, manufacturers and assembly companies.

Major highways provide access to markets across the US and Canada. Cortland County easily connects to I-90, I-88 and NYS Route 17 (soon to become I-86). Interstate 81 runs through the county from the Canadian border to Virginia, and links directly to the New York State Thruway, a superhighway spanning all of New York State from Buffalo to New York City.

Air travelers use private and charter flights out of Cortland County Airport. Continental and intercontinental flights arrive and depart daily from Hancock International Airport in Syracuse, Broome County Airport in Binghamton, and Tompkins County Airport in Ithaca.
