Overview

graphicIn 1850, New York City tailor John Stevens inspired 1,000 individuals to form the Industrial Home Association No. 1, which bought 367 acres of farmland and divided it into quarter-acre parcels, forming one of the first pre-planned communities in the country. The community was eventually named Mount Vernon, and today boasts a culturally diverse population of nearly 70,000 residents that live within 4.2 densely populated square miles.

Excellent public and private schools, a spacious public library, quality healthcare centers and a strong and stable business community all contribute to Mount Vernon’s reputation as an ideal place to live and work.
