Recreation

graphicThere are endless opportunities for fun as a Mount Vernon resident. The Department of Recreation is employed full-time and is responsible for maintaining the city’s abundant parks and playgrounds. An ice skating rink, baseball diamonds, running tracks, softball diamonds, eight handball courts, six clay tennis courts, horseshoe courts, shuffle board, two picnic areas and a golf putting green are only some of Mount Vernon’s recreational amenities. Baseball and tennis courts are floodlighted for night games or matches.

The Westchester County Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation operates Wilson Woods Park and Pool in Mount Vernon, a favorite spot for summer fun. The pool is open Tuesday through Sunday.

For those wanting to exercise their minds, the Mount Vernon Public Library boasts a collection of more than 440,000 books, including an extensive foreign language collection, children’s books, magazines, newspapers, audio recordings, CDs and videos, pamphlets and maps. Housed in a spacious, modern and well-equipped building, the Mount Vernon Public Library offers unique features such as a collection of federal and New York State government documents, Mills Law collection, a Job Information and Education Center, a business reference collection and GED classes. Computers with CD-ROMs, Internet access and an on-line public access catalog are available for public use.
