of the first significant American military victory during the Revolutionary
War, the Battle of Saratoga ranks among the fifteen most decisive battles
in world history. Saratoga National Historical Park was authorized by
Congress in 1938, and now comprises three separate units: the four-square
mile "Battlefield" in Stillwater, the General Philip Schuyler
House (eight miles north in Schuylerville) and the Saratoga Monument in
the nearby village of Victory.
