Please allow me to welcome you to our beautiful county during this most exciting time. Sullivan County’s abundance of natural resources, open spaces and proximity to the Metropolitan area blend to make us a prime community to visit or choose for a home.

On behalf of the people of Sullivan County, the County Legislature wants to do everything it can to help you find your way around the community. The charms of our county are no secret as our year-round population of over 74,000 doubles in the Spring and Fall and swells to more that 250,000 in the Summer. Our unique location offers something for everyone year-round.

Sullivan County has a rich history of tourism ranging from majestic hotels and cozy bed and breakfast nooks to summer camps and hunting retreats. It’s the home of the 1969 Woodstock Music and Arts Festival and will soon be the home of a world-class performing arts center on the historic concert site.

Our natural beauty draws visitors from around the globe. More than 250,000 guests enjoy rafting, canoeing, kayaking and other outdoor activities along our splendid Delaware River. Residents and visitors mingle on hiking trails that traverse the majestic Catskill Mountains and, later, greet each other in restaurants or the antique shops that dot our towns’ and villages’ quaint Main Streets. Our County is home to world class golf courses as well as a natural bald eagle habitat. Sullivan County is world renowned as the birthplace of fly-fishing in America.

On the other side of the Sullivan County coin, we are poised to experience a time of unprecedented growth that has been carefully planned and encouraged by local government in conjunction with the business community. The County recently received Empire Zone status that provides tax incentives to new businesses and our Emerald Green Corporate Center is ready to attract compatible industries to the area. Additionally, in a short time, our County could be the home of two newly-approved casinos.

Getting to know the great people of this area is usually no more difficult than talking with your neighbors or reaching out to the individuals and businesses included in this welcoming packet. County Government services can be located by calling the Government Center in Monticello at (845) 794-3000 or checking out our website at co.sullivan.ny.us.

We invite everyone interested in relocating into the County to join those of us who remember our proud past for what promises to be an exciting future.
