More than 60 percent of the households in Sullivan County rely on some form of child care each week. The weekly rate for child care depends upon the age of your child with infant care being the most expensive, the average cost for care being approximately $110 per week. The different communities in Sullivan County offer a variety of programs from a day care center, to home-based care, to school age programs. Newcomers to the area should contact the Sullivan County Child Care Council, which is the local resource and referral agency. The council can educate parents about the different forms of care, the availability of care, whether care is licensed or registered by the State of New York. They also provide parents with a special information packet that includes tips on child care, a checklist for evaluating providers and how to interview a potential provider for your child. All this educational information empowers parents to make an informed decision for their children.
