Whether your transportation needs run from shipping manufactured goods out of the state to cycling scenic highway 181 up into the Blue Ridge, Burke County has the roads to get you there. A major interstate, I-40, connects Asheville to the west and Hickory to the east, as well as both coasts, as it crosses Burke County. Three other major interstate highways, I-85, I-77, and I-26 are less than an hour’s drive from Burke County.
Other highways lead to urban centers such as Charlotte or to nature preserves such as the Pisgah National Forest and the South Mountains State Park. Our touring section describes only a few of the many possible exciting and informative excursions waiting to be made.
