Even before Catawba County’s first churches were built in the early 1800’s, the county’s new residents would exercise their faith in whatever setting available - open groves, barns or private homes. As those early settlers built neighborhoods throughout the county, churches were soon created to serve believers. The first church, St. Paul’s Lutheran, was built in 1759 near Newton.

Today, Catawba County residents gather for faith and fellowship in more than 200 houses of worship representing all major denominations. Most have special programs for youth and senior citizens as well as for the entire family. Whether a resident or a visitor, you will find a warm and open invitation to be a part of such groups as may fit your needs and personal beliefs.
