Shopping & Relaxation

From large chain stores to inviting small specialty boutiques, Kernersville offers shoppers every type of experience. The Factory’s vintage spaces in historic downtown Kernersville have brought another layer of experience for area shoppers.

Ellington Jewelers store owners Angie and Bruce Hutchins opened their downtown store three years ago on Main Street. Their customers like that the downtown area is convenient to park and walk.

“It’s not like having to fight mall traffic. We have low overhead that so we can pass savings onto the customer. Plus, we say ‘thank you’ when we give change,” says Angie with a laugh.

With several grocery stores, including an updated, refurbished high-end Harris Teeter, and large department stores such as Kohl’s and Target, citizens rarely need to leave Kernersville to find what is on their shopping lists. From sporting goods stores to shoe stores, from hardware at Lowes Home Improvement to software at Staples, from buffet lines at all-you-can-eat lunches and dinners to not missing a single game at Indigo Joe’s restaurant, Kernersville shopping has all bases covered.

Tina Higgins grew up in Kernersville. She remembers when men shopped at Corder’s for suits and dress shirts and ladies shopped at the Form Fit Boutique next door, where Higgins got her first job. Now a teacher’s assistant, she remembers when W.J. Johnson ran the Western Auto where Baskets and Beyond is now located.

The shopping scene has changed since Higgins grew up although some things, like the courtesy typically expected in small-town shopping, has not.

“I love to shop at the Lowes Foods on Piney Grove Road. Walter, the manager, is so precious; and the kids who work at the check-out are so friendly,” says Higgins.

Kernersville now offers high-end spa services at locations like Balance Day Spa or downtown at Mercedes Mendez’s Romerg Little Spa, Elements Day Spa or Karma Day Spa. With Sassy’s Elite Consignments, Floor Coverings International or Designers Attic, Kernersville has businesses to help with every interior décor need. PaperSassy Fine Stationery & Gifts, home base of nationally distributed stationery artist Devora Transou, carries bright, creative and customized paper products.

Small-town service, convenience and selection make shopping in Kernersville a delight.
