Welcome to Kernersville. We’ve been expecting you. Come in, relax, and experience the warm embrace of a vibrant community brimming with opportunities.
Duane Long spent 20 years in three large cities before moving to Kernersville in 1989.
“I was involved in my other communities,” said Long, “but they were so large that I never felt as though I was part of the whole community. Kernersville has continuity. I have networked with wonderful people in civic clubs, at church, and in The Kernersville Foundation. These people are active and they want to help you. And best of all, they are capable of helping.”
Long, who begins serving as chairman of the board in 2008, actively participates on community committees, is a past president of the Rotary Club of Kernersville, and takes a leadership role at his church.
Jeff Taylor, also well schooled in the art of service, began his duties as chairman of the board in 2007. His volunteer efforts have been appreciated by civic clubs, fundraisers, churches, and youth sports.
As a past president of the Rotary Club, Taylor noted, “I try to bear in mind the truth of the Rotary’s motto: ‘They profit most who serve best.’ We don’t just profit financially, we profit mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. And, Kernersville makes it easy for everyone to become a meaningful part of the community.”
Like Long, Taylor has had the opportunity to compare Kernersville to many other cities and towns.
“I used to work for the airlines and so my wife and I have been to a lot of places. The more we traveled the more we realized that Kernersville is a caring role model community and the place we wanted to call home,” Taylor said.
While caring people are the heart of Kernersville, its traditions and institutions are its backbone. This is a town with parades, festivals, award-winning parks, a quaint Historic District, over 60 churches, neighborhood schools both public and private, a locally owned newspaper, YMCA, its own fire and police departments, and heavily supported recreational activities for everyone — preschoolers to senior citizens.
Often called the Heart of the Triad, Kernersville is only 15 minutes away from Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and High Point. This gives residents all the advantages of small town living — with the big benefits of expanded employment and business markets.
