Recreational activities and attractions are abundant on and off Topsail Island. Vacationers and residents alike enjoy all the beach has to offer, from swimming, sunning, strolling and searching for shark teeth or shells to dolphin or bird watching. Early morning beachgoers in the summer are sometimes fortunate enough to find Loggerhead turtle tracks where a female turtle has come ashore to lay her eggs. Night visitors to the beach can watch the antics of the scurrying ghost crabs, or if the timing is right, the hatching of baby turtles making their way to the ocean.

Fishing is also a very popular sport on Topsail Island. Experience some of the best year-round fishing on the 26 mile coastline, Intercostal Waterway or its inlets and rivers. Whether your interest is in surf casting, pier fishing or offshore fishing, there is always something biting on the Topsail Coast. Surf casters can expect to reel in trout, spots, flounder and drum during the summer season. Charter and Head boat services for offshore fishing are always fueled up and ready to ride the waves of the Atlantic where anglers will meet their challenge in trying to catch king mackerel, dolphin, tuna, snapper, grouper and cobia.

Golfing can be enjoyed on a number of courses on the mainland from Hampstead to Sneads Ferry. Public tennis courts are available in Sneads Ferry at Stump Sound Park. Other experiences to enjoy are kayak and other water sport rentals, parasailing, miniature golf, go-karting, a waterslide amusement park, scenic boat tours, roller skating, scuba and snorkeling.

Play on the Surf City Playground, visit the Missiles and More Museum or the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Hospital. There are many recreational opportunities for young and old alike in the Topsail area.
