The Coventry Township communitypopulation 11,280is blessed with an abundance of natural landmarks in its 9.8 square miles. Surrounded by the lakes that comprise the Portage Lakes State Park, water sports and lake home living dominates the culture. Our six parks also provide softball fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, walking paths, shuffleboard courts, football fields, nature trails, ice skating opportunities, kite flying, sled riding and a bird sanctuary. Organized sports events for youth abound. However, academics come first in our school system: of the 208 graduates in the class of 2000, 52 percent enrolled in 4-year colleges, 18 percent enrolled in 2-year colleges and 7 percent joined the armed forces. We awarded 26 honors diplomas and 40 College Prep Awards of Merit to these students.
Thanks to our open enrollment policy, students from Springfield, Manchester, Barberton and Green elect to attend classes in our system. Did You Know? Coventry was the first township in the country to stop annexation by creating and adopting a joint economic development district with Akron.
