The Darke County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to present to you our 2001 Membership Directory/Community Guide. Thank you to our members who have demonstrated their continued support of the Chamber and its programs through their sponsorship of this publication.

We recognize Darke County as a vibrant, growing community which offers its residents the unique opportunity to enjoy small town community life within easy access of major metropolitan areas. Because of its geographic location, Darke County is within a 90-minute air market for 55% of the population of the United States. Darke County plays a vital role in the success of the Miami Valley: historically, culturally and economically. We are home to a diversified industrial base, including Whirlpool Corporation, BASF, Honeywell and Corning.

The Chamber of Commerce is here to support the business community of Darke County. We do this through a variety of community development programs. In 2000, the Darke County Chamber of Commerce sponsored or co-sponsored two regional job fairs, seminars on workforce development issues regarding team-building, recruiting and retaining qualified employees and tax issues for small business. Chamber committees sponsored educational programs including Leadership Darke County, Teen Leadership, School-to-Work, and Diploma Pledge. Other committees sponsored local festivals including Salute to Farmers, Ag Appreciation Day, Small Business Appreciation Day, Santa Claus Parade and holiday activities. The Chamber emphasized its role as a business advocate through involvement in Grassroots Ohio Works and Legislative Education and Advocacy Darke County.
