The Darke County Park District supervises four woodland parks: The Coppess Nature Sanctuary, The Routzong Nature Preserve, Tecumseh Point and Shawnee Prairie Preserve.
Routzong Nature Preserve is a 51-acre wooded preserve. Towering oak, beech and maple trees highlight this forest. There are large Ohio buckeye trees along with groves of paw-paw trees. This is a great place to see nature display its wildflower glory. Tecumseh Point, the triangular shaped tract of land formed by the junction of Greenville and Mud Creeks, was once part of a large Native American encampment known as Prophets Town. The Darke County Park District built a footbridge and a deck overlooking Tecumseh Point, steps to a lower trail and a walkway. Take a walk along this area so rich in history and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors. Shawnee Prairie Preserve features wetlands, natural prairies, and an oak tree stand that is 250 years old along 2.5 miles of trails.
