Life and Rescue Squads Darke County is served by a network of nine rescue squads, each independently run and financed, but cooperating in purchasing new equipment, obtaining grant subsidies and providing training. The chiefs and administrators from each squad meet monthly. Squads are located in Ansonia, Arcanum, Bradford, Gettysburg, Greenville, Osgood, New Madison, Versailles and Union City. Human Services The Darke County Human Services Department has five divisions. Income Maintenance provides financial and medical assistance to families and individuals. Education promotes employability through assessments, educational activities and job search skills. Children Services protects children from abuse, neglect, and dependency through educational and protective services. Child Support Enforcement collects and distributes child support. Adult Protective Services are also provided. In July, 2000, the State of Ohio combined the Department of Human Services, Ohio Bureau of Employment Services and Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA) into Jobs and Family Services, a one-stop concept for those needing to upgrade employability and childcare skills. CORSP Council on Rural Services Programs include child day care, Head Start, runaway and homeless youth, network for youth, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, and diversion.
