The Case-Barlow Farm is the newest addition to Hudsons cultural scene. One of the earliest working farms in Hudson, the Case-Barlow Farm welcomes all volunteers, and sponsors family events such as concerts and fairs. The Actors Summit Theater, a non-profit professional theater, produces between six to eight full-length shows within each season, from classical Shakespeare to intimate musicals. Actors Summit hires both equity and non-equity Ohio actors and artists for its mainstage season. It also offers a new playwrights readers series, professional training classes and audition coaching. Actors Summit holds open auditions and welcomes volunteers at all levels of participation. The Ohio Ballet, Akrons diverse professional modern ballet company in residence at the University of Akron, regularly performs at Western Reserve Academy in an outdoor summer setting. These exciting performances are sponsored in part by the Ohio Arts Council, the Hudson Chamber of Commerce and local businesses. Hudson also features the Hudson Players, a community theater group that produces four shows per year. From the highly acclaimed "Joseph and his Technicolor Dream Coat" to the "Best Christmas Pageant Ever," the Hudson Players enjoy a loyal following. The Western Reserve Academy, home of the Encore Strings program, offers a summer residential educational training program for some of the finest young string players in the country. The program is the brainchild of David Cerrone, violinist and head of the Cleveland Institute of Music. The school hosts literally hundreds of high school age string players, perfecting their technique with the help of the best private tutors in the country.
Multiple educational opportunities are available for children who want to learn more about the arts. The Hudson Community Education and Recreation Department is a great resource for music and dance classes as well as painting and drawing workshops. Hudson boasts a strong group of individual artists whose combined talents have fostered the Hudson Society of Artists; the Art on the Green Annual Sales hosted by the Hudson Rotary; the Hudson Womens Club Annual Antiques Sale in June; and the Hudson Community Chorus. Both the Hudson Library and Western Reserve Academy host guest speakers on a regular basis, and the Learned Owl Bookstore organizes multiple book clubs. The Hudson Public Schools offer orchestra and band classes, swing and a cappella choir groups, and art classes for children in middle and high school. Additionally, many of our local churches host music and drama groups. Whether you take in a professional or community-based performance, Hudson is a great place to enjoy, study and participate in all levels of the arts!
