The City of Hudson operates under a Council-Manager form of government. The Mayor plus four wards and three at-large council members are each elected to four-year terms. The professional City Manager is appointed by City Council. Day-to-day business operations and municipal administration are carried out by the City Manager and supporting staff.

City services include municipal electric power distribution; water and sewer services; a cable television station; a golf course; a variety of public parks; public cemeteries; a planning department to assist residents and businesses with construction approvals and related matters; plus a service division whose duties include road maintenance, snowplowing and stormwater drainage management.

The City is served by a professional police department that is composed of 31 full-time sworn officers, a full- and part-time dispatcher staff and an active auxiliary contingent. The department is committed to community-oriented policing. The Hudson Police Department sponsors and supports a variety of community outreach programs such as D.A.R.E., youth counseling and juvenile diversion, Senior Watch and Vacation Watch visitation, and youth Explorers.

Dedicated volunteers serve the community’s fire protection and emergency medical service needs. The fire department celebrated its 150th year as a volunteer service in 1999. A full-time fire chief and three full-time staff members provide fire safety education, prevention and inspection services. All members of the volunteer force have completed state-mandated training and receive intensive ongoing training through the department.

Hudson EMS has served as the community’s emergency medical service provider since 1977. The service is comprised of a full-time EMS Director, full-time Executive Assistant, and over 50 volunteer drivers, emergency medical technicians and paramedics. The service works under the supervision of two volunteer physician medical directors and provides initial and ongoing training for its members.
