The Kettering/Moraine/Oakwood area is rich in history. The area that comprises the three cities was first settled in 1798 as a farming community.

In 1803, when Ohio was admitted to the Union, the area formally became Van Buren Township. In 1906 the City of Oakwood was formed.

From 1910 to 1925, what is today the tri-city area was a thriving center of industrial development and invention. The Wright brothers operated an aircraft manufacturing facility in what is today Moraine. Charles F. Kettering and Colonel Edward A. Deeds collaborated on the invention of the automobile self-starter. After the invention, the men organized the Dayton Engineering Laboratories Company (DELCO) which produced the new starter.

In November 1952, voters took the first step to establish the Village of Kettering and later the City of Kettering. The adjoining area became Moraine Township and is today the City of Moraine.

The Kettering/Moraine/Oakwood area is located south of Dayton in Montgomery County. Nearby cities include Cincinnati (47 miles), Columbus (75 miles) and Indianapolis (125 miles). Toledo, Detroit, Chicago and Pittsburgh are also convenient to the area.

With easy access to I-75 and I-675, the area is within hours of many of the Midwest's major metropolitan areas and within a 90-minute flight from Dayton International Airport to the nation's major cities.

Housing in the Kettering/Moraine/ Oakwood area consists mostly of single-family dwellings, although a variety of multi-family housing exists. Each city offers unique housing styles, ranging from English Tudor to modern suburban structures. All three cities have a positive reputation for quality housing within the Dayton Metropolitan Area. Residential sale prices in Kettering range from $27,000 to $600,000; Moraine ranges from $3,000 to $118,000; Oakwood ranges from $65,000 to $825,000 according to information supplied by the Dayton Area Board of Realtors.
