Maumee is a historic city, founded in 1817 as one of the earliest settlements in the Old Northwest Territory. Our city pre-dates most of the cities in Northwest Ohio, including our larger neighbor, the city of Toledo. Our strategic position as a transportation crossroads contributed to the early growth of our city then, and it is equally true today. Many of the architectural gems of early America are still prominent in our community, such as the Fallen Timbers Battlefield, Fort Miamis, the Wolcott House, the historic Maumee Indoor Theater, and our Uptown Maumee Business District.
While proud of our past, we are a modern, progressive community of 15,600 residents who host over 32,000 employees in the many businesses and industries that reside in Maumee.
Our success in economic development provides a low tax rate and revenue growth resulting in a high quality of life for our people. Our low income tax rate of 1.5% has not changed in over 30 years. We can guarantee that you will receive more “bang for your buck” and a wonderful community experience in our great city.
The City of Maumee has a wonderful neighborhood park system as well as Side Cut Metropark, which is clearly one of the most beautiful parks in the State.
If you are here to stay or just visiting, I’m sure you’ll find Maumee and its people will always have that hometown feeling!
Very truly yours,
Mayor Timothy L. Wagener
