Oak Openings Preserve
Off S.R. 2, two miles west of Toledo Express Airport
The preserve features Ohio's only moving sand dunes. It also has areas for hiking, biking, and ice skating, as well as horseback riding trails, softball diamonds, and soccer fields.

Swan Creek Preserve

University/Parks Trail
This area has an eight-mile, paved trail along the former railroad right-of-way between King Road and the University of Toledo, as well as a connector trail to Wildwood Preserve.
Wildwood Preserve

Wednesday through Sunday, this preserve offers tours of 1930s-era Manor House, a Window on Wildlife observation area, a floodplain boardwalk trail, walking and biking trails, and picnic areas.

This coastal environment is home to more than 300 species of birds. Anglers can fish for walleye, yellow perch, bluegill, white bass, channel catfish, and freshwater drum from the lake. Controlled hunting is also permitted on the adjacent Magee Marsh Wildlife Area. A valid Ohio hunting and/or fishing license is required.

Maumee Bay State Park is a popular refuge for golfers, sunbathers, bird-watchers, swimmers, and a host of other outdoor enthusiasts.
Maumee Bay has a lodge, 20 rental cottages, a winter sledding hill, campgrounds, summer beaches, a championship golf course, a marina, inland fishing ponds, the Trautman Nature Center, a two-mile boardwalk through a wild bayside wetlands area, and a University of Toledo environmental research center.

This 8,316-acre complex along Lake Erie in Lucas and Ottawa counties includes the 2,445-acre Cedar Point National Wildlife Refuge in eastern Lucas County, the 77-acre West Sister Island National Wildlife Refuge — the only designated wilderness in Ohio — nine miles offshore from Cedar Point Refuge, and the 4,683-acre Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge, the centerpiece of the complex.
WATER RECREATION
To some boating enthusiasts, a perfect day on Toledo waterways could include cruising the downtown riverfront with a band playing in Promenade Park, rowing on the river at dawn, running full throttle on Lake Erie to a watering hole on Put-in-Bay, or a leisurely sail around the islands.
