Tuscarawas
County is home to various denominations and blessed by its many churches.
Over 150 churches, representing most major denominations, are situated
in our friendly towns and neighborhoods for family worship and gathering.
In the late 18th century, two courageous religious leaders, John Heckenwelder
and his friend David Zeisberger, established the mission communities of
Gnadenhutten and Schoenbrunn. To the Amish and Mennonites of today, those
heroic settlers strengthened faith for county residents of those religions.
Tuscarawas
County is still rich in both heritage and descendants of our historical
settlers. Church life in Tuscarawas County is not limited to Sunday morning
worship services. A variety of activities take place all during the week
and weekends, as well. The area is enhanced and enriched by activities
including youth group meetings, street fairs, bazaars, music on the square
and other events with a Christian theme. A high degree of understanding
and sharing of common purpose exists between our religious entities.
There
are strong, active local ministerial associations and united groups offering
inter-church fellowship. Ecumenical services are held during religious
holidays and cooperative chaplaincy is coordinated at area hospitals and
nursing homes.
The
Tuscarawas county Council for Church and Community, better known as T-4-C,
is an ecumenical organization serving thousands of area residents each
year. Programs and initiatives of their efforts offer a wide array of
benefits to many local families and individuals.
