Outdoor enthusiasts will find no end to the possibilities available in and around the city of Stillwater. From camping to fishing and golf to farm tours, the region is excellent territory for those who prefer to spend their free time taking in the stunning surroundings or enjoying outdoor activities.
Golfers will feel right at home with six area courses designed to challenge the most enthusiastic duffer.
Major courses include Cimarron Trails, Karsten Creek Golf Club, White Barn, Lakeside Memorial, The Links and Stillwater Country Club, each within a fifteen minutes’ drive of downtown Stillwater. Karsten Creek was rated a “Top 10 New Public Course” by Golf Digest and is consistently ranked among the nation’s top 40 courses. It has hosted events such as the NCAA Championship tournament and the Ping Invitational at Karsten Creek.
Five area lakes provide a world of recreational opportunities such as water-skiing, boating, sailing, fishing and camping: Boomer Lake Park, Lake Carl Blackwell, Lake McMurtry, Sanborn Lake, and Whittenberg Lake. Motorcycle and ATV riders will be delighted to discover three parks dedicated to their passion in the area. Area 51 Motocross Park offers trails, jumps and fishing. Cooperland Raceway is home to numerous national and regional races for all skill levels (peewee — over 40 class).
And the Stillwater Motorcycle Park features off-road motorcycling with an emphasis on safe riding techniques.
Other local attractions include the annual Farmer’s Market held from April to October at 309 North Main Street. Admission is free and the market is open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. OSU is home to many research farms offering the latest technology in animal husbandry.
The Pfeiffer Farm Collection exhibits early farm equipment and machinery, while visitors may also visit the Teal Ridge Wetlands to get an up close and personal view of nature at work. Educational and recreational tours and seminars are available year-round for visitors of all ages.
