A local woman had always wanted to serve those in need and opened Agape House in 1986. Beginning in a small house, Agape House grew as more and more people came in search of assistance; thus a larger facility became necessary. In 2005 the organization was moved into a larger building, making it easier to facilitate their mission.

Agape’s Emergency Food Box Program provides eligible people with basic nourishment. The food share program transfers goods to other food banks to fill needs where they are found. Treasures on Main Thrift Shop was established as a place where people could obtain clothing and household items at a reduced rate, free or via voucher. Agape also provides assistance with prescriptions, emergency housing, transportation, wood heating assistance and showers for the homeless. Coat, blanket and sleeping bag assistance helps protect people from the elements.
A sense of obligation and pride for community shines through in the many service and volunteer organizations in Hermiston. This is truly a caring and compassionate city!
