Approximately 2,050 students attend one of six schools comprising the Milton-Freewater Unified School District #7, a K-12 system employing approximately 350 dedicated employees.

District #7 schools include the K-5 facilities of Grove Elementary, Freewater Elementary and Ferndale Elementary Schools; Central Middle School for grades 6-8; and McLoughlin High School, aptly referred to as Mac-Hi, serving grades 9-12.

In addition to the regular curriculum offered through District #7 are ample specialized programs to meet the needs of all student abilities, along with extracurricular activities. The Milton-Freewater District is regarded for its outstanding music, reading, science, sports and after-school programs, and its STELLAR program is impressive, as well.

A gradually growing student population is being accommodated through current facility enhancements, which includes the remodeling of classrooms and the addition of the new science building at Mac-Hi in spring of 2007. Further improvements have been acknowledged within the district, as Mac-Hi recently received designation as a 2008 Celebrating Student Success Champion School—making it one of only six schools in the state to receive this distinction. Champion Schools exemplify significant improvement in student achievement for minority or low income classes.
