What is the Chamber?

The concept of the Chamber of Commerce as a voluntary organization in the United States is eight years older than the Declaration of Independence. The New York State Chamber of Commerce, the first in America, was organized in 1768 and five years later the first local Chamber of Commerce was organized in Charleston, South Carolina.

The Milton-Freewater Area Chamber of Commerce was organized in 1945 with Sidney Reese as its first President.

The Milton-Freewater Area Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to an agenda aimed at meeting what our members feel necessary to prosper. Our goal is to give our members value for their membership investment.

Each year the Board of Directors identify specific goals in order to focus on what will really make a difference in the quality of life in our community. The program of work will be a strategic plan of action to guide the Board, staff and member volunteers in accomplishing the mission of the Chamber.

The Milton-Freewater Area Chamber of Commerce believes that when men and women come together unselfishly on problems in which they have in common, progress will result.
