The city of Ontario operates under a Mayor-Council form of government. The City Council consists of the Mayor, Council President and five Councilors.

The Mayor is elected at-large and works in conjunction with the city Manager and the City Recorder to run the city and serve the people of Ontario. The city’s government is committed to serving its residents and businesses. City Council meetings are generally held the first and third Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall. The Ontario Fire and Rescue Department consists of 41-members dedicated to protecting the citizens of Ontario and residents of surrounding areas.

The department has 9 full-time firefighters, 25 volunteer firefighters, and a part-time secretary. In addition to responding to local fires, the department provides Hazardous Material Emergency Response, Quick Response/EMT services, building permits, inspection of residential burn barrels and checks on the fire safety of new construction in the area.

The Ontario Police Department provides public safety police and dispatch services 24-hours a day. Other services include fingerprinting, permits and licenses, crime prevention, animal control and weed/garbage abatement. The police department has 33 employees, which include administration, patrol, detectives, ordinance control and dispatch.
