

Recreational opportunities are ample in and around Pendleton, providing great year-round activities for every interest. Spend the night under the stars, go hiking or backpacking in the Blue Mountains or cycle through the area’s beautiful landscape. Leisure enthusiasts can also take pleasure in golfing, tennis and swimming at the Family Aquatic Center or in the local lakes and rivers; not to mention great winter season diversions such as downhill or cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and sledding.
Hunting in this region is unbeatable. Deer, Rocky Mountain elk, antelope, waterfowl and upland game birds are some of the wildlife that call this area home. Visitors have plenty of options for lodging, as a number of hunting ranches dot the map.
Hit the waters of the Columbia River, Umatilla River, the McKay Reservoir or one of the area’s lakes and partake in activities such as boating, kayaking or canoeing. Or cast a line and enjoy some of the top fishing on the west coast.
Golf remains a popular pastime here as well. Access to courses designed to accommodate the beginner and challenge the expert is easy while in the Pendleton community.
Established in 1929 as a nine-hole course, the Pendleton Country Club has expanded into a well-maintained 18-hole, Par 72 course. The course meanders over 6,317 yards through the beautiful Birch Creek Valley. The country club is also equipped with a top-of-the-line pro shop stocked with quality apparel, clubs, bags and more, and a full-service kitchen and lounge.

With breathtaking views of the stately Blue Mountains, the Wildhorse Resort Golf Course has become a favorite of golfers living in and visiting the area. The 18-hole course features gorgeous lakes, undulating hills and rich grasses. Players can choose between four sets of tees, with the shortest being played at 5,718 yards and the longest at 7,128 yards. A pro shop, driving range and practice green can be utilized here as well, along with lessons with the resort’s PGA pros, and tournaments.
Another choice for golfing is the scenic Echo Hills Golf Course, located just outside of Pendleton. Drawing in golfers from northeastern Oregon and southeastern Washington, the nine-hole Echo Hills Golf Course is a popular spot for a challenging game. In addition to the hilly course is a full-service pro shop, a snack bar and a driving range.
