Dining

DINING
With Portland being a hub of culinary creation, it’s no wonder why the West Columbia Gorge is filled with interesting and unique eateries and boasts of new brewpubs and lounges serving tantalizing libations. The area is home to such ethnic restaurants as Italian and Chinese, as well as good old-fashioned pub food and familiar chain restaurants, too.

LODGING
With so much to take in at this wooded riverside string of communities, make it a point to stay a while. There are numerous RV parks and campgrounds for those who wish to reconnect with nature, but for those who prefer the great indoors, there are historic hotels and bed and breakfasts aplenty. Check the West Columbia Gorge Chamber of Commerce website at www.westcolumbiagorgechamber.com for an inclusive list of the area’s accommodations.

RECREATION
Fishing, boating and hiking are just some of the numerous recreation options to take advantage of in the area. With easy access to the Columbia and Sandy rivers, fishing and boating is made enjoyable and accessible. The West Columbia Gorge is home to a wide variety of fish, including trout, bass, perch, crappie, catfish, sturgeon, steelhead, whitefish, shad and salmon.

East of Corbett is Crown Point State Park, a wonderful hiking destination and home to the Crown Point Vista House, a historic observatory that “affords shelter and comfort to all who come to look on the splendor of the scene.” Other prime hiking spots in the area include Guy W. Talbot State Park, George W. Joseph State Natural Area, Rooster Rock State Park, Blue Lake Regional Park, Lewis and Clark State Park, and Dabney State Recreation Area.

Visitors can also marvel at the many waterfalls in the area, for the Columbia River Gorge is home to the highest concentration of waterfalls in North America. Multnomah Falls, second in height only to Yosemite Falls, shares the spotlight with Horsetail Falls, Triple Falls, Ponytail Falls, Punchbowl Falls and several others. The West Columbia Gorge never skimps on majestic vistas; here, tranquility and recreation abound.
