Capturing the events and accomplishments of 200 years of history is a daunting task, but thanks to the hard work and tireless efforts of many Butler County residents, the year 2000 promised to be an event-filled and memorable year.

Butler County has seen a remarkable surge in growth during the last decade of the twentieth century, due in large part to the strong foundation built by our founding fathers so many years ago. The changes in Butler County during the past two centuries have been dramatic, and this book is in no way an attempt to relive each history-making event. Rather, it is intended to be a commemorative written time capsule of life as we know it at the beginning of the new millennium.

On behalf of the Butler County Bicentennial Celebration, special thanks to our current board of county commissioners - James Kennedy, Joan Chew, and Glenn Anderson - as well as former Commissioner William McCarrier. Without their ongoing support, our year of celebration would not have been possible. Also, our gratitude goes to the Butler County Chamber of Commerce & Tourism, whose board of directors and staff embraced the opportunity to work with our committee and provide administrative services and office space for us.

It has been an honor to serve Butler County as Bicentennial Chairman. I truly hope that future generations of Butler continue the momentum of interest in our history and service to our community, which we have accomplished throughout the past 200 years.

God Bless,

Dick May

General Chairman
