Thriving Economy

DuBois’ thriving economy is thanks in part to its extensive diversification. As the center for dining and shopping among the six-county North Central region, retail is a major employer in the area.

DuBois is near the geographic center of Pennsylvania’s powder metal industry which employs over 10,000 people in the region. In addition, the DuBois area is home to many large manufacturing companies, with newer and larger facilities being built. The healthcare industry accounts for the area’s strongest growth, due to innovative facilities and centers, and provides significant employment to the region. (explanation: St. Marys has more powder metal jobs than DuBois, so the statement seemed to say that the 10,000 jobs were in DuBois)

The top employers in the region include Wal-Mart, DuBois Regional Medical Center, Owens-Brockway Glass Container Inc., DuBois Area School District and Osram Sylvania Products Inc., showing that a stable, reliable and skilled workforce builds a strong economy, as well as important public services.
