Staying healthy is a priority for Eastern Montgomery County residents. Through the area’s excellent hospitals, medical facilities and private practices, along with well-equipped fitness centers and health spas, residents can both maintain and improve their health and wellness without having to leave the county.

The 570-bed Abington Memorial Hospital (AMH), which opened its doors in May of 1914, stands as a regional referral center and teaching hospital that has been providing comprehensive, high-quality medical services to the residents of Montgomery, Bucks and Philadelphia counties for nearly a century. The hospital employs 5,500 full-time employees, with a medical staff reaching more than 900 physicians, including primary and highly sophisticated specialists, making AMH one of the county’s largest employers. In addition to AMH’s dedicated staff are over 1,100 volunteers who give their time and talents to support the hospital.

AMH is a major regional referral center for cancer care, cardiac care and surgery — including orthopedic surgery and neurosurgery — and encompasses the only Level II Trauma Center in the county. The hospital sees more than 36,000 inpatient admissions and well over 500,000 outpatient visits each year. In addition to the main medical center, AMH has several comprehensive outpatient facilities, including the Abington Memorial Health Center-Schilling Campus in Willow Grove, the Abington Memorial Health Center-Warminster Campus in Bucks County and Abington Physicians at Montgomeryville that offers modern ambulatory service to the community.

Founded as a teaching hospital, AMH currently sponsors five residency programs for physicians and operates the Abington Memorial Hospital Dixon School of Nursing and the Radiologic Technology and Nuclear Medicine Technology programs. Additionally, a host of health education classes, screenings, help lines and support groups are available at little to no cost to the community.
